John: Can/May/Shall I fetch you at the airport, Mary?
Mary: No, thank
you. Alex said he may/can/would pick me up. I will/could/should

John: Okay. Will/Could/Might you

Mary: I’ll ring
you up but if I mayn’t /can’t / won’t reach you I may/ could/ will text you.
Half an hour later, Alex phones Mary, who is still on her way to the airport.
Alex: You are
arriving at around 13:45 right?
Mary: My flight
is taking off at 13:00 if there is no delay.
Yes, the plane is landing at approximately 13:45. You are going to pick
me up, aren’t you?
Alex: I am calling
you to tell you that I can’t/won’t/shouldn’t pick you up for my mom
suddenly told me she had to go to the hospital and wanted me to take her there.
Mary: That should / may
/ can be fine, Alex. I could/can/ shall ask John to do it. He offered his help
but I told him to wait until you confirm it. I still have enough time to
contact him.
Alex: That’s great.
