Have To Or Have Got To?

HAVE TO digunakan untuk menyatakan keharusan dari luar. Misalnya keharusan karena peraturan atau keharusan dari orang lain. Have Got to juga keharusan dari luar namun penggunaan nya sedikit berbeda jika dibandingkan dengan Have to. Have to digunakan untuk keharusan yang sehari-hari kita lakukan atau keharusan yang biasa dilakukan.
 Contoh:

  • I have to wake up early every day. Keharusan yang dilakukan setiap hari. Ingat keharusan ini bukan datang dari diri sendiri. Berbeda dengan I must wake up early every day. Di sini keharusan datang dari dalam dirinya sendiri.
HAVE GOT TO adalah keharusan yang timbul pada saat berbicara. Artinya keharusan yang timbul pada saat itu. Contoh:
  • Sorry. I've got to leave now. (Maaf. Saya harus berangkat sekarang)
  • She's got to be there right now. (Dia harus berada di sana sekarang)
  • You've got to act quickly otherwise, you won't get a chair.
Have got to sering disingkat menjadi 've got to atau 's got to tergantung pokok kalimatnya. Perhatikan contoh-contoh kalimat berikut:
  • Sally has to be at the office at 7 o'clock every day.
  • We've got to be at the airport very early tomorrow. We don't want to late again.
  • Well, I've got to go now. Thank for having been with me.
  • Do you have to speak English at your office?
  • Mr. Sunaryono, you've got to see the boss now. He's waiting for you.
Dalam bentuk lampau HAS GOT TO atau HAVE GOT TO menjadi HAD TO.
  • I had to order it earlier because I was afraid that I wouldn't get the book.
  • Did you have to come earlier to the party last night?
Have got to juga bisa digunakan untuk keharusan in the future.
  • Have you got to arrive 10 minutes earlier tomorrow?
  • When you arrive there, I think you've got to mention who you are first.
