No Sooner Than

No sooner ....than digunakan jika dua kejadian terjadi dimana kejadian pertama segera diikuti dengan kejadian yang lain. Contoh dalam bahasa Indonesianya: "Segera setelah saya..........dia pun ................... = No sooner had I .........than she .................
Tenses yang digunakan adalah Past Perfect (pada kejadian yang pertama) dan Past Tense (pada kejadian berikutnya.  Untuk lebih jelasnya perhatikan contoh-contoh kalimat berikut:

• No sooner had the rain stopped than we all continued our trip. (Segera setelah hujan berhenti kami melanjutkan perjalanan kami.)
• No sooner had I realized that she was trying to cheat me than I found an excuse for leaving her soon. (Begitu sadar bahwa dia mencoba menipu saya, saya pun menemukan alasan untuk pergi meninggalkan nya segera.)
• No sooner had I arrived at the bus terminal than the bus came.(Segera setelah saya tiba di terminal bus, bus itu datang / Bus datang setelah saya tiba di terminal bus.)
• No sooner had I eaten my breakfast than I felt a little stronger to resume my work. (Setelah saya sarapan, saya merasa sedikit lebih kuat untuk melanjutkan pekerjaan saya.) 
• No sooner had we finished the discussion than everyone went home.

Konstruksi berikut juga mungkin digunakan, yaitu pada dua kalimat tersebut kita menggunakan Simple Past Tense.
Perhatikan contoh-contoh berikut:

• No sooner did I tell her that I didn't love her than she began crying. (Setelah saya mengatakan kepadanya saya tidak mencintainya dia pun segera mulai menangis.)
•  No sooner did the police allow the crowd to enter the room than they all rushed into it. 

Contoh-contoh di atas BISA digantikan dengan AS SOON AS dengan menggunakan Simple Past Tense:

• As soon as the rain stopped, we all continued our trip.
• As soon as I realized that she was trying to cheat me, I found.......... 

AS SOON AS....... = Segera setelah; setelah
Contoh dalam percakapan:
A :  Did you meet Don at the restaurant?
B : No, I didn't. As soon as I finished eating my lunch, I went home.
