FUNGSI GERUND DALAM
KALIMAT
Sebagai Subjek/Pokok
Kalimat
· Reading novels used to be my spare time activity. (Membaca novel pernah
menjadi kegiatan waktu senggang saya.) Kata kata yang digarisbawahi adalah
gerund sebagai subjek.
· Jogging in the park in the morning will keep you fit. (Olahraga jogging di taman di pagi hari akan
membuat Anda fit.)
· Swimming and dancing are good exercises for your health. (Berenang dan dansa adalah
olahrga yang baik untuk kesehatan Anda.)
Jika kita
perhatikan Gerund sebagai subjet tidak selalu berdiri
sendiri tapi diikuti oleh kata lain seperti pada “Reading novels, Jogging in
the park…… dan lainnya”. Dalam contoh ini Gerund sebagai subjek
yang diikuti kata-kata lain disebut Gerund Phrase.
Gerund sebagai Subject Complement
· What I want to do next is knowing
where they are right now. (Apa yang ingin
saya lakukan berikutnya adalah mengetahui dimana mereka sekarang.)
· Nancy’s hobbies are cooking, singing, and riding a bike. (Hobi Nancy adalah memasak, bernyanyi, dan naik
sepeda.)
· Nindya’s favorite sport is climbing. (Olahraga favorit Nindya adalah mendaki.)
